‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ movie was as much about retirement in a foreign country, relationships and reconciliation as it was about medical treatment in India.
Hip surgery overseas was the reason that stubborn and prejudiced Muriel Donnelly (played by Maggie Smith) travelled to India and found herself among the group of disgruntled oldies in a run-down hotel in a strange, colourful, new world.
Her doctor in the UK had told the wheelchair bound senior that her only alternative to a six-month wait for hip surgery was to travel to India where she could have it done immediately – which was a tall order for someone so set in her ways and her attitudes….all of which created some deliciously funny scenes in the movie.
But hip surgery in India doesn’t need a grumpy senior in a fictional story to tell the truth about what is one of the country’s fastest-growing industries.
The healthcare industry in India is currently going through a period of significant growth and more and more people from around the world are experiencing the reasons why it has become on the of leading destinations for medical tourism…not just for hip replacements.
To quote from the website of one of the leading providers of medical tourism, Global Health Travel, “Indian healthcare is synonymous with safety trust and excellence, and has some of the finest qualified doctors and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The accredited hospitals provide the highest level of professional expertise, with the hospitality and personalised nursing care in India said to be the best in the world. Regardless of whether a patient has had a knee replacement in India, a hip replacement , spine surgery or a breast augmentation, the quality and integrity of treatment and care is world-class.
’The ‘Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ was a fictitious story about a bunch of eccentric British seniors came to India in search of a better life in their twilight years – but if you’re looking for a bunch of the best professional medical practitioners for your knee or hip replacement overseas and the prospect of a better life, you’ll also find it in India and that’s a fact.
